Mission
• Becoming the leading knowledge centre concentrating on law,
regulation and policy.
• Connecting the lawyers of Central Europe
• Participating in active information exchange
Central European Lawyers’ Initiative is a bottom-up movement that aims to build up the network of outstanding legal practitioners and scholars in the Central and Eastern European region. Its primary aim is to become the leading knowledge centre concentrating on law, regulation and policy. We hold the principle that the lawyers of Central and Eastern European countries, be them in legal academia, the public or private sector, can and must learn from one another in order to develop the legal system of their country of origin.
Cooperation is key to open and open-minded dialogues which can contribute to better policy-making, legislation and law enforcement. Not only country-specific legal problems have to be dealt with, but also EU and international aspects of certain legal instruments which require solutions that take into account the past, present and future of the region and that of the countries therein. We are of the opinion that the motto ʽunity in diversity’ must also apply to legal cultures. That is to say, complying with EU law requirements and respecting the sovereign Member States’ characteristics and legal traditions can only function exceptionally well if they are taken into consideration in a reciprocal way and go hand in hand with one another.
